In My Wardrobe: A day at the Races

It’s been a busy few weeks since I got back off holiday, so I haven’t really been able to take as many outfit pics as I’d like. But I did get pics of a couple of looks. I was invited, somewhat last minute, to the Investec Derby at Epsom, and had 48 hours to put together a races-friendly look. Now there’s nothing I love more than a girly dress, some OTT headwear and slightly matchy-matchy accessories, so I had great fun putting this outfit together and only had trouble choosing the exact dress to wear. In the end I went with the hot pink Escala prom dress by Fever. I was also lucky enough to have someone with some photography skills and a decent camera along for the ride, so thank you so much to Natalie for making this outfit post a little bit more fashion blogger-y than usual…

More shoes saved & dresses worn!

I’ve been making every effort to actually update this site more often in 2011, but I’ve been a bit quiet this week as things have been a bit busy, so apologies for that. I’ve still been keeping up with my challenges – Frugal Feb the Shoeper Challenge and Frocking Fridays – and I’m finding documenting all those outfits and shoe saves really good fun, and it makes me think a little bit more about what I’m wearing each day, rather than just throwing on whatever dress comes to hand first. Especially as in the last week I’ve had parties, work events and London Fashion Week to attend…

Frugal Feb begins & hell freezes over…

Ok, so hell didn’t exactly freeze over, but I did ditch my reliance on dresses and wear something else for once. And not just anything – a jumpsuit. I said during Frugal Feb that I wanted to be creative with what I already own since I’m not buying new stuff, so I’m trying to really make an effort there, dragging out old stuff I haven’t worn for ages and getting some wear out of the cheap stuff I bought in the sales. Of course, sometimes this works. Sometimes, it really, really doesn’t…

Frugal February & The Shoeper Challenge

2011 is all about challenges for me, and as well as keeping up with Frocking Fridays and continuing to dress a bit more ‘dangerously’ I’ll be embarking on two new online fashion challenges in February. The first is my own cost-saving exercise, Frugal February, which means absolutely no spending on non-essentials for the entire month. No clothes, no shoes, no beauty products, no books etc.

The second is Amber‘s brilliant Shoeper Challenge which sees shoe-obsessed bloggers vowing to wear every single pair of shoes and boots they own over the next 12 months (and provide photographic evidence). Sounds easy? Well, you just wait until you see how many shoes I have…

2011: The year of dressing dangerously

I really enjoyed wearing a different dress every day during Dressember, and it was definitely great for helping me drag my old dresses out of the back of the wardrobe. But I also think it made me a bit lazy. Putting on some tights, throwing on a dress and some shoes and calling it an ‘outfit’ is a bit too easy for a fashion fan like me. Especially when all the tights are black and all the shoes are flat. One too many jersey dresses with a long-sleeved top have made even me admit that at the moment I look a bit…boring!

Get your dresses on for Frocking Friday!

If you enjoyed following the ladies (and gents!) taking part in Dressember, then you might like to know that some of the folks taking part are continuing their challenge to wear more dresses by taking part in Frocking Fridays. The premise is simple – every friday you must wear a dress and upload the pic to the Facebook group. Don’t worry if you missed the first couple of weeks, you can still join in and take part for the rest of the year. You can repeat dresses so don’t worry if you don’t have 52 of them floating about, it’s all about getting out of your jeans and trying something a bit more glam!

Dressember Week 5 – Happy New Year!

Dressember came to it’s conclusion this week, and what better way to go out than with a New Year’s Eve party frock? I also pulled out a couple of old favourites and raided the sales for the odd bargain. These are the last of my Dressember photos, but needless to say I won’t be spending January in jeans and now that I’ve got into the habit of photographing my outfits, I’ll hopefully do it a bit more often in the future. But for now, this is me signing off and saying I DID IT! 31 days…and just over 31 dresses!

Dressember Week 4 – Christmas time!

I’m almost at the end of Dressember, but I’m not giving up yet! It’s been really fun snapping each outfit, planning what to wear and knowing each morning when I get up that I’ve got yet another frock to wear. At the beginning of week 4, the last thing I wanted to do was snap photos of my flu-ridden self, but I managed to keep it up, and I’m so glad that I did! This week also saw me heading home to spend Christmas with my family in Worcestershire, and three guesses what I had in my suitcase…

Dressember Week 3 – Cocktail frocks & Boy flu

I’ve been a bit under the weather this weekend, but that didn’t stop me keeping up with my Dressember commitments…it just means the photos are even worse than usual! This week’s challenges included a ‘jumping’ day (to celebrate getting halfway through) and ‘wedding weekend’. Since I’ve never been married, I had to whip out a bridesmaid dress instead, which wasn’t exactly ideal in the snow, but since I’ve not left the house all weekend, five mins in my Liberty florals didn’t do too much harm…

Dressember continues with week 2!

Dressember continues as the online challenge to wear a dress for every day of the month gets even more silly, with the addition of ‘Ballgown day’ (not my idea!) on Saturday. My self-appointed extra challenge of no repeats has been brilliant for helping me to rediscover old favourites from the back of the wardrobe – a lot of this week’s frocks are 2 or 3 years old. Between the 6th and 12th December I managed to wear 9 dresses, which I think is pretty good going. From full-length and fabulous to short and silly, here are my looks from the last 7 days…
